Why do some informal settlements do better than others?
Over a hundred million people in South Asian cities live in informal settlements. In a single South Asian megacity, there may be thousands of informal settlements. They are not all the same. This project investigates how informal settlements across Karachi differ in terms of their access to water and sanitation, and identifies the reasons why some settlements achieve better WASH outcomes than others. Using a mixed methods approach, this study aims to provide critical insights into the factors influencing service access and inform policies that ensure equitable and sustainable water and sanitation solutions for informal settlements across South Asia.
